THE ALEX CAT MEMORIAL GRANT FOR THE CARE OF A SPECIAL NEEDS CAT OR DOG GOES TO HOMEWARD BOUND CAT ADOPTIONS IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA FOR THE CARE OF GEORGE CAT.
George is a senior cat who was about to be euthanized due to his medical needs. Thankfully Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions can give him the time and care he needs to stabilize and recover, and if needed, permanent residency in the Compassionate Care program.
We are glad our grant will help George. Alex would have liked that.
The Alex Cat Memorial Grant is our very first Grant. The first of many!
This is a Grant for very small animal shelters, rescues and sanctuaries that have no more than 5 employees, to be used for the veterinary care of a special needs cat or dog.
Alex cat was a 12 week old kitten found in a trash can. He'd been thrown away to die since he had pneumonia and was undersized. I nursed him back to health after many emergency room visits, follow up veterinary visits, stacks of medications, and round the clock love. He lived to be almost 16 years old. He died on February 14th, 2021 just 3 weeks prior to his 16th birthday.
Alex's entire life was filled with health issues due to his rough start. His veterinary care was constant and expensive for recurring pneumonia, diabetes, thyroid disease, stomatitis, eye ulcerations, pancreatitis and kidney disease. Despite his medical needs, he was a happy, playful, loving cat right up until his final 2 weeks. He always sat with any other rescue cats or dogs when they were ill, trying to comfort and love them. He was the sweetest soul I've ever met.
While this grant would be too small to make any difference to a larger shelter-rescue-sanctuary, we hope that for a small one it will have a big impact. Alex would like that.
