Dumpsters to Dishes is a new program to re-use all the pet food thrown into dumpsters by grocery stores and pet supplies stores.
If a bag is slightly torn, a can too dented, or it's even 1 day past the expiration date it is thrown out. And often we hear that is "corporate policy". But no one can actually cite the policy nor put is on touch with this mysterious corporate representative. In the meantime, we watch the store employees and managers throwing the bags and cans into dumpsters at the back of the store.
We need volunteers to contact stores (local and national) and ask them to set aside that food andn donate it to our rescue and our Anne Erspamer Memorial Pet Foodbank which provides food to pet parents that temporarily need help feeding their pets to avoid having to surrender them to a shelter. And in addition to preventing pet food waste, they get a tax deduction - it's a win-win!
Volunteers can live anywhere but must have their own phone to call grocery stores. We'll provide an AskMrFrisky email address for emailing on behalf of the rescue. There will be an orientation session over Zoom. Remind them it's a tax deduction for their business!)
We will also need Volunteers to drive to pick up the food and delivery it to one of our Board members for distribution to our rescue, fosters for our rescue, and our food bank. Volunteers for this can be in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York.
1. Fill out our Volunteer Inquiry Form.
2. Attend a Volunteer orientation session.
